Panama's economy continues to recover as indicated in the report of the Main Monthly Economic Indicators for January-September 2020-21 published by the National Institute of Statistics and Census (Inec), in which activities of relevance for the country such as the Panama Canal, ports, exports, the Colon Free Zone, the banking sector, gambling, the stock market and construction, among others, mark a good growth rate with a view to their recovery.
Most of the figures were advanced by various institutions responsible for each sector, allowing them to be observed as a whole thanks to the compilation made by the Inec team attached to the Office of the Comptroller General of the Republic.
The Panama Canal toll revenues for January-September 2021, compared to the same period in 2020, positive presentations of 13.3%; of these, those corresponding to Neopanamax vessels by 20.6% (they represented 58.6% of revenues and rising due to the trend in transit and tons) and those of Panamax vessels increased by 4.3%.
Regarding the net tons, they registered a positive variation of 12.0% as well as the cargo volume in 14.6%. Likewise, the total transit of ships by this route increased by 3.8%, mainly reflected in the Neopanamax 16.1%.
While the total cargo movement increased by 9.1%, with containerized cargo exceeding 16.0% (which continues to exceed 50% of the total). The movement of TEU containers (equivalent to 20 feet) increased by 12.4%.
The volume traded, by the total market of the Panama Stock Exchange (BVP), increased by 26.9%, mainly due to the primary market with 40.8% and the secondary market 13.8%; on the contrary, declines in repurchases of 66.4% were reported.
The total employment contracts registered in the Ministry of Labor and Labor Development (Mitradel), increased 65.6%, in the regional headquarters 74.4% and in the central headquarters they grew by 40.2%; likewise, those processed virtually in 151.1%.
Non-horizontal properties registered increased 62.9%, specifically, transfers by 84.8%, likewise, horizontal properties by 42.1% and of these, mortgages by 57.1%.
The total number of companies registered in the Public Registry increased by 46.5%, mainly by the anonymous 46.7% and the common by 38.5%
